Why join CAST?

You'll find lots of reasons to join our statewide network of science educators. CAST exists to support, stimulate and improve science education at all levels. As a member, you'll have access to extensive resources for professional development, opportunities for your students, classroom activities, grant opportunities, CAST-specific awards and grants, and discounts on certain programs.


Your CAST membership includes:

Professional Development Opportunities and Networking.  As a member, you'll learn about professional development opportunities through our website and social media (Facebook and Twitter.)  In addition to learning new science content, teaching strategies, and classroom activities, attending science workshops will provide many opportunities to network with fellow science teachers and other science professionals. Rural CAST members may apply for scholarships up to $100 to attend the Colorado Science Convention. 

CAST Classroom Grants.  After 1 year of membership, CAST members can apply for classroom mini-grants.  These grants are for up to $200 maximum and can be used for non-consumable science materials.

CAST Awards. CAST members have the opportunity to be recognized and to nominate Colorado teachers for excellence in science education.

Friends of CAST Benefits. CAST has developed partnerships with the following organizations that give discounts or free membership; discounted educational programs; and in return these organizations provide support for CAST.

Free admission to the Colorado Gators Reptile Park in Mosca, Colorado. Colorado Gators is a family owned reptile rescue and education facility that is open to the public year round.  Visitors tour a working fish farm and see over 300 alligators.  Get a hands on experience with alligators and other reptiles.  See also pythons, rattlesnakes, giant turtles and tortoises, lizards and more!

Free Individual membership to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (or a discount on dual and family memberships) including; guest passes, discounts to the IMAX, Planetarium, deli and gift shop. Members also receive discounts to lectures and workshops and invitations to member events.

20% discount on Denver Zoo and Education programming. CAST members receive a 20% discount on the following Denver Zoo school programming: Classes, mini-classes and assemblies both at your school and at Denver Zoo; service learning and after school programs at your location only, science and career workshops at Denver Zoo; and teacher professional development workshops offered at Denver Zoo.

Free membership to Dinosaur Ridge, which includes free admission to Trek Through Time, free guided Shuttle Bus Tours, access to a quarterly printed or online newsletter, and a 10% discount in the gift shop.

Free membership to Museum of Western Colorado and The Dinosaur Journey Museum; including free admission for one year to Museum sites, events for members only: book signings, exhibit previews, etc., discounts on trips, classes, workshops and lectures, 10% discount on purchases in all Museum gift shops, and discounted admission to select fundraising events such as Two Rivers Chautauqua.

Free membership to John McConnell Math and Science Center in Grand Junction; including unlimited free admission to the Center for one calendar year, notice of special events and presentations, and advanced notice of camps and after-school programs.

CAST sponsors several student science activities each year:

  • Colorado State Science and Engineering Fair  - CAST gives 4 $100 awards to deserving students in the CSSEF each year. One award each for middle school physical science, high school physical science, middle school biology, high school biology.  This event will take place on April 11-13, 2019. CAST is in need of several volunteers to help judge the student entries on Thursday, April 11th. Please let us know if you would like to be involved!

CAST sponsors local professional developers that provide opportunities for science teachers. 

  • Peak Area Leadership in Science- CAST Region II provided funds to PALS both last year and this year to assist with in bringing the Denver Museum of Nature and Science down to Colorado Springs to present a workshop on Brain-based Learning.
  • EleSTEMaryCAST Region II provided funds to EleSTEMary  this year to assist with their monthly meetings.
