Why join CAST?

You'll find lots of reasons to join our statewide network of science educators. CAST exists to support, stimulate and improve science education at all levels. As a member, you'll have access to resources for professional development, opportunities for your students, classroom activities, grant opportunities, CAST-specific awards and grants, and discounts on certain programs.

 

Your CAST membership includes:

Professional Development Opportunities and Networking.  As a member, you'll learn about professional development opportunities through our website and social media (Facebook and Twitter.)  In addition to learning new science content, teaching strategies, and classroom activities, attending science workshops will provide many opportunities to network with fellow science teachers and other science professionals. Rural CAST members may apply for scholarships up to $100 to attend the Colorado Science Convention. 

CAST Classroom Mini-Grants.  After 1 year of membership, CAST members can apply for classroom mini-grants.  These grants are for up to $200 maximum and can be used for non-consumable science materials and/or innovative activities.

CAST Awards. CAST members have the opportunity to be recognized and to nominate Colorado teachers for excellence in science education.

Friends of CAST Benefits. CAST has developed partnerships with the following organizations that give free or reduced membership, free admission and/or discounted educational programs to show support for CAST members.

Free Individual membership to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (or a 30% discount off a Dual or Family memberships) including free unlimited admission, access to the member lane at the ticketing desk, guest pass(es) - dependent on membership level, special members-only events, discounts throughout the museum (IMAX, Planetarium, deli and gift shop, classes, workshops, and other) and admission to more than 350 other science centers and museums worldwide through the DMNS partnership with the ASTC passport program.


Free individual membership to Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison includes guided shuttle tour for 2 people, free admission to Trek Through Time for 2 people, free guided Shuttle Bus Tours,  and a 10% discount in the gift shop, access to Quarterly Newsletter and Annual Report, and monthly Emailed Newsletter (E-tracks). For only $20 you can upgrade to a family membership and receive admission & shuttle tour for 4 people.


RAFT Colorado in Denver connects thousands of Colorado teachers with the inspiration and affordable resources students need to work, think, innovate and learn creatively.  RAFT offers a $5 discount on their RAFT annual membership to CAST members.  To access this benefit, the CAST member just needs to show their membership card at RAFT and request the $5 discount.


Walking Mountains Science Center provides locals and visitors from pre-k to gray with opportunities to explore nature, gain a scientific understanding, and learn about the many wonders of our mountain environment through natural science and sustainability programs. CAST members receive FREE entrance to any Walking Mountain Facility - including Vail Nature Center, Nature Discovery Center (Vail Mountain), Walking Mountains Science Center Campus (Avon). To access this benefit the CAST member just needs to show their membership card at the facility.


The goal for the Eureka!  McConnell Science Museum in Grand Junction is to make the basic elements of science and mathematics available for students and adults as they conduct hands-on investigations. Eureka! hopes to redefine the way people think about, learn about, and interact with science and technology by making it fun for everyone.  Free individual membership to the museum including 25 daily visitor passes annually and a 10% discount for programming. To access this benefit the CAST member just needs to show their membership card at the museum.




Your CAST membership helps sponsor these activities...

CAST sponsors several student science activities each year:

  • Colorado State Science and Engineering Fair  - CAST gives 4 $100 awards to deserving students in the CSSEF each year. One award each for middle school physical science, high school physical science, middle school biology, high school biology.  This event will take place on April 11-13, 2019. CAST is in need of several volunteers to help judge the student entries on Thursday, April 11th. Please let us know if you would like to be involved!

CAST sponsors local professional developers that provide opportunities for science teachers. 

  • Peak Area Leadership in Science- CAST Region II provided funds to PALS both last year and this year to assist with in bringing the Denver Museum of Nature and Science down to Colorado Springs to present a workshop on Brain-based Learning.
  • EleSTEMaryCAST Region II provided funds to EleSTEMary  this year to assist with their monthly meetings.
